Biathlon BC is announcing the provisional plans for biathlon competitions this winter. These plans are subject to change on short notice due to the state of emergency in BC and the evolving return to sport guidelines. As our competition season is over four months away, we anticipate that further changes may be announced as we endeavour to provide some form of competition this winter.

REVISED HOSTING POLICY: The Board of Directors of Biathlon BC has approved a revised hosting policy to take effect for the 2020-2021 season. The changes include a reduction in the number of sanctioned race categories, and the addition of the relay and super sprint as new competition formats.

The new hosting policy is available: HERE

BC CUP SCHEDULE: Biathlon BC has sanctioned 4 events this winter:

  • BC Cup 1: Quesnel, January 15-17, 2021
  • BC Cup 2: Vanderhoof, January 29-31, 2021
  • BC Cup 3: Whistler, February 19-21, 2021
  • U13 Biathlon Championships: Whistler, March 12-14, 2021

Biathlon BC continues to monitor the impact of COVID-19 on our sport and the viaSport guidelines that apply to our sport. We will provide updates regarding any modifications to the competition schedule or to the organization of the events themselves as they become available.

U13 BIATHLON CHAMPIONSHIPS: This winter Biathlon BC is piloting a new event just for U13 biathletes. The vision for the U13 Biathlon Championships is an annual event modeled after the XC Track Attack Championships, focused on skill development, fun, and social engagement. This event is specifically designed for U13 athletes and will feature fun and unique competition formats and a banquet.

This event, along with the XC Track Attack Championships, are the two provincial-level events recommended for U13 biathletes. This year the event is scheduled for March 12-14, 2021 at Whistler Olympic Park. More details about this event will be published in the Fall.

REGIONAL RACE GUIDELINES: Biathlon BC is encouraging clubs to host regional races for U13 athletes and recreational participants in their region this winter. A set of guidelines to assist clubs in the hosting of regional races, including suggested event formats and distances, will be published in the Fall.
