2025-2026 Western Series Announcement

Biathlon Alberta and Biathlon BC have developed a new event series. Aimed at bringing the strongest and deepest fields together in Western Canada, the Western Series will feature the best biathletes the west has to offer.

“We are excited to bring this joint initiative forward to help facilitate large and highly competitive classes for all our athletes in these 4 events. Benefits will include improved athlete and coach development, more meaningful events for athletes, bigger visibility and market for our sponsors, larger and more financially viable events for our organizing committees, and improved community building for our members across BC and Alberta.”
Roddy Ward, General Manager, Biathlon BC

The Western Series will consist of two Biathlon Alberta events and two Biathlon BC events, with a season-long points race in the U17 standing, Youth M/W, Junior M/W, and Men & Women categories.

2025/26 Western Series events:

  1. Calforex Cup #1, Canmore, AB (November 29-30, 2025)
  2. Odlum Brown BC Cup #1, Vernon, BC (December 6-7, 2025)
  3. Calforex Cup #4, Hinton, AB (February 21-22, 2026)
  4. Odlum Brown BC Champs and Westerns, Prince George, BC (March 5-8, 2026)

“This is a fantastic opportunity for our senior athletes to challenge themselves against the top talent across the region. By working together, Biathlon BC and Biathlon Alberta are building meaningful competitions that strengthen development and create a vibrant racing community.”
Ntala Quintilio, Executive Director, Biathlon Alberta

To qualify in the season-long points race, athletes must be registered members of an Alberta or BC Biathlon Club and compete in at least six competitions. There is no additional cost to participate in the Western Series season-long points race.

Biathlon Alberta and Biathlon BC are currently seeking sponsors to assist with athlete prizes. Organizations interested in discussing this possibility, please contact Jack Pengelly (Biathlon AB) or Roddy Ward (Biathlon BC).

The IBU points system will be used to determine category winners, with points awarded for each individual competition held at the Western Series events. Athletes who ‘race up’ at Western Series events will be classified in the category in which they competed in.

Points will be awarded as follows:
1st place 90 points
2nd place 75 points
3rd place 65 points
4th place 55 points
5th place 50 points
6th place 45 points
7th place 41 points
8th place 37 points
9th place 34 points
10th place 31 points
Point totals will decrease by 1 point per position thereafter, with 40th place earning 1 point.
